Pittsburg State University, Theodore M. Sperry Herbarium (KSP)The 49,850 specimens document the distribution and natural variation of vascular plants and bryophytes, primarily from Kansas, adjacent states, and North America. Over 11,000 have been added the past decade. Ca. 2500 specimens are backlogged, mostly from North America but also ca. 500 from Madagascar and many hundreds of bryophytes. Many specimens are unicates. Important additional holdings from abroad include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Peru, Myrtaceae (mostly Madagascar and New Caledonia), Poaceae (worldwide), and 26 isotypes. Ca. 6300 bryophytes are data based on the Consortium of North American Bryophytes website (https://bryophyteportal.org) or this website. Ca. 19,200 specimens include phenological data. Over fifteen percent of the collections are vouchers for published research. Significant collections include H.S. MacKee from New Caledonia and H. Tuomisto from Peru. Ornamental (non-native) occurrences mostly are not data based. Student and volunteer curatorial assistance, as well as generous financial support from the National Science Foundation (CSBR 1756276), is gratefully acknowledged.
